Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs

 

Basic Salary Scale: Kshs. 434,720 p.m. – Kshs. 580,250 p.m.
House Allowance: Kshs. 80,000 p.m.
Leave Allowance: As provided by the University Annual Leave: As existing in the Civil Service Medical Cover: As provided by the University Terms of Service: Five (5) year contract renewal once subject to satisfactory performance

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

(i) be at least an Associate Professor and a holder of an earned doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited university;

(ii) have a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant administrative, academic and research experience, three (3) of which must be at management level; 

(iii) have demonstrable leadership in an academic and/or research institution, having served substantively with measurable results in senior administrative position such as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Principal of a University Constituent College, Deputy Principal, Dean/Director/Chairperson/Registrar of a Department, Principal of a College/Campus or leadership of comparable levels in other similar institutions;

 (iv) have a proven track record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals, monographs and books;

 (v) understand the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya;

(vi) have membership to a professional body where applicable;

 (vii) have a leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized and accredited institution;

(viii) demonstrated a clear understanding of national development policies, goals and objectives and ability to integrate them within the university's strategic framework;

(ix) be an accomplished scholar with a proven track record in formulating and managing academic programs, supervising and mentoring master's and Ph.D. students;

(x) demonstrate experience in networking and resource mobilization in the development of a university; and

(xi) have a strong portfolio in raising funds through research grants and collaborations.

Governance, Ethics and Compliance
(i) demonstrate high ethical standards, integrity, transparency and accountability, professionalism, teamwork and good stewardship.

 (ii) comply with requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya (2010).

(iii) comply with Chapter Two, Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010) on National Values and Principles of Governance.

 (iv) familiarity with Public Finance Management, Public Procurement and Human Resource Management.

 (v) familiarity with Public Service Commission requirements for senior leadership and management positions in the Public Sector.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities Functions The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor is responsible for the following functions:-

 (i) provide strategic leadership and direction;

(ii) oversee the development and implementation of programmes.

(iii) coordinate the efficient and effective management of university enterprises.

(iv) coordinate the preparation and implementation of university budgets, strategic plans and annual work plans;

(v) oversee development, implementation and review of policies, procedures, regulations and standards;

(vi) coordinate implementation of appropriate quality assurance interventions; and

(vii) ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment.

As per the Charter and Statutes of Kenyatta University and under the direction of the Vice-Chancellor, you will be the head of Academic Division of the University.

Duties and responsibilities as set out in the Kenyatta University Charter and Statutes shall include

: (i) planning, developing formulating and implementing the appropriate policies and procedures to promote development and management of academic activities, teaching, learning, innovation and technology transfer;

(ii) planning and overseeing the preparation, implementation and reviewing of the academic quality assurance and e-learning policies;

(iii) coordinating and ensuring development and review of curricula in line with market demand, and regional and national regulatory bodies;

(iv) formulating guidelines for the effective management, implementation and evaluation of academic programmes;

(v) developing effective and efficient admission and registration system and over-sighting and coordinating admissions, examinations, undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies, Library Services, Students' Attachment and Training of Academic Staff as well as Student Union Activities;

 (vi) coordinating preparation and review of the University Academic Calendar, Prospectus, and any other academic oriented Publications; (vii) mobilizing resources for teaching and learning including integration of ICT in teaching and learning;

(viii) ensuring that the university attains a high level of competitiveness in its academic programmes;

(ix) planning and advising in the recruitment and development of teaching technical staff in the academic division;

(x) developing, maintaining and promoting academic collaborations and link with both local and international institutions of higher learning; 

(xi) reviewing, strengthening and overseeing students' governance issues and services offered to those with special needs; and 

(xii) such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned or delegated to you by the Vice Chancellor in accordance with the Statutes of Kenyatta University
