Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration and Finance)

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

 (i) be at least an associate Professor and a holder of an earned doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited university in Kenya;

(ii) have a minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant administrative, academic and research experience, three (3) of which must be at management level;

(iii) have demonstrable leadership in an academic and/or research institution, having served substantively with measurable results in senior administrative position such as Deputy Vice Chancellor, Principal of a University Constituent College, Deputy Principal, Dean/Director/Chairperson/Registrar of a Department, Principal of a College/Campus or leadership of comparable levels in other similar institutions;

(iv) have demonstrated training and competence in finance and administration; (v) have a proven track record of research and publications in peer-reviewed journals, monographs and books;

(vi) understand the structural, legislative and regulatory framework for administering University Education in Kenya; (vii) have membership to a professional body where applicable;

(viii) have a Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized and accredited institution;

 (ix) have demonstrated a clear understanding of national development policies, goals and objectives and ability to integrate them within the university’s strategic framework; (x) be an accomplished scholar with a proven track record in formulating and managing academic programs, supervising and mentoring masters and PHD students;

 (xi) demonstrate experience in networking and resource mobilization in the development of a university;

(xii) have a strong portfolio in raising funds through research grants and collaborations;

Governance, Ethics and Compliance

(i) demonstrate high ethical standards, integrity, transparency and accountability, professionalism, teamwork and good stewardship;

 (ii) comply with requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010;

 (iii) comply with Chapter 2 Two, Article 10 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 on National Values and Principles of Governance; (iv) familiarity with Public Finance Management, Public Procurement and Human Resource Management;

(v) familiarity with Public Service Commission requirements for senior leadership and management positions in the Public Sector; Core competencies and skills

(i) ability to portray and uphold a national image and work in a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic environment with respect for diversity, equity and inclusivity;

(ii) be a visionary, strategic, innovative and results-oriented leader;

(iii) excellent organizational, inter-personal and effective communication skills as well as logical and sound decision-making ability;

(iv) capacity to work under pressure; and

(v) firm, fair, consultative and transparent leader.
